Short Player Bio's

Jim Roos; In1968 Concordia Seminary won a tournament and I was selected MVP. In 1970 I graduated from Concordia (Lutheran) Seminary in St. Louis, MO. I then started Neighborhood Enterprises, a housing business/ministry which provides rental housing for about 200 lower income families. Since 2005 I led the effort to prevent future eminent domain abuse in St. Louis. I married in 1968 and my wife Judy and I have two grown sons in Baltimore & Phoenix. The last two summers I rode bicycle 450 miles across Iowa in an event called Ragbrai. I am a workaholic and the bike rides restored some balance between work and rest.

Dean Veenhof; I went to Bradley U. on a basketball scholarship, in over my head and after one semester, I transferred to Augustana in Sioux Falls, SD. and stayed for two years. I got drafted into the army and spent 15 months in Vietnam after discharge in May of 1967, decided to get married later that year, and went back to college in the fall of 1968 and after first semester of 69-70 graduated from Huron College. After working in admissions @ Huron the 2 nd semester, during the summer, kept a promise and moved to Gilbertsville, NY. I taught and coached basketball (plus others) for a career of 28 years. Judy, my wife, and I raised three daughters Mieke, Meghan, and Kristi. They were all good athletes in high school and graduated, or our about to, from college. I was active in many organizations and holding official positions, one was the President of NYSPHSAA from 1998-2001. Since I retired I have been driving tour bus to NYC, Boston, Philly, ect. In the summer I drive team bus for the Oneonta Tigers (been doing this for 9 years). Six players who began their career in Oneonta are now playing for Detroit, what a blast.

Darwin D.J. Fey; Number 22, graduated in 1962, married and raised three children. Started an advertising specialty company, invested in rental real estate, and is part owner in a commercial carpet company. I retired in 1996 at the age pf 52, and have three grand children. I re-married after a story book romance in Jamaica, love to play golf with a low round of 69, I presently reside in Arizona. I still get asked about the Cinderella Basketball Team from Edgerton, Minnesota.

Tom Warren; After high school I went of Iowa State for one year and transferred to Dakota State U in Madison, SD. I graduated in 1966 with a major in mathematics and physical science. I then attended graduate school at the University of SD in Vermillion and graduated with a Masters Degree in math and science. I spent 33 years teaching math and science; 8 years in Jasper, 10years in Albany, and 15 years in Alexandria. I coached 7 th and 8 th grade basketball for 5 years in Jasper (3 undefeated), and 5 years in Albany (2 undefeated). I married Cheryl Kearin in 1966 and we have two children, Jeff and Gina and two grandchildren. I was active as a scout leader, and my hobbies are golfing, hunting, wood carving, and traveling.

Daryl Stevens; I went to Worthington Junior College, still working on the farm on weekends. Recruited to play football at Worthington Junior College, it became a frustrating experience. I did play basketball and was involved in track and field. I transferred to St. Cloud State University and played some basketball for Red Severson, and graduated in 1967. I worked at Anoka State Hospital as a rehab therapist. Six years later, I transferred to the Department of Corrections as a caseworker at the St. Cloud Corrections Facility. Through all this I married and divorced, but have a wonderful daughter Leah. I became a chemical dependency therapist and worked in this field until retirement in 2005. My wife, Pam and I have a talented daughter, Jessica. Pam and I remain runners but added biking and swimming. We now compete in Duathlons (run, bike, run) and triathlons ( swim, bike, run) September of 2007 we completed Ironman Wisconsin (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run.) We will be heading for the Hawaiian Ironman in Oct. of 2008.

Leroy Graphenteen; Shortly after graduation, I began working for Central Telephone Co. During my employment I relocated to several areas in managerial positions. When I retired in 1996, I held the position of Regional Business Accounts Manager in Burnsville, MN. After I retired, my wife and I moved back to Fairmont, MN. I now work part-time in a local hardware store. I am happily married to my high school sweetheart, Patty. We have three married children, a son and two daughters. They have blessed us with ten wonderful grandchildren. My wife and I enjoy going fishing, shopping for antiques and watching our grandchildren participate in sports and other school activities.

Larry Schoolmeester; I enlisted in the Air Force in 1965 and was sent to Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. Graduated from IBM school in Witchita Falls was then promoted to Sgt. Schoolmeester and later discharged in 1968. After working in Sioux Falls a short time I returned home and was employed at the Edgerton Farmers Co-op until my retirement in 2004. My wife, Marilyn, teaches at Edgerton high school. We live in Edgerton and have two sons Tim and Tom and one daughter Julie. We both love spending time with our grandson Luke. I enjoy hunting and fishing.

Dean Verdoes; I attended Macalester College and graduated in 1964 with a B.A. and a math major. My first teaching position was in Clarkfield, MN in math & coaching basketball from 1964-69. In 1969-70 I moved to Madison, MN and had similar position. The following year 1970-71 I accepted a position @Woodbury Jr. In 1972 I completed a master’s degree in Ed Adm @ the U of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. In 1975 I completed my Ed Adm certification at St. Thomas. My next 28 years from 1971-99 were at Henry Sibley High School in Mendota Hts, MN I was teaching math and coaching basketball, soccer, and golf from 1971-86. Beginning. 1986-99 I served as the athletic director and asst. principal at Henry Sibley High School In 2000 I Retired; Other Experiences are; member of the MSHSL Board for four years, member of Region 3AA committee for six years (chairman 4 yrs). After retiring working many state tournaments. I married Barb Palm in 1969, we like to travel over most of the U.S.A. Golf, fishing, and hunting are some of my favorite hobbies

Darrell Kreun; In August, 1961 I enrolled in Northwestern College @ Orange City, IA and graduated in 1965. Awards earned where; 4-year letterman in basketball and baseball All-Conference- 2 years in basketball & baseball, NAIA All-District, Northwestern Athlete of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame. My first teaching & coaching basketball position was in Hanska, MN 1965-68. We moved to Gaylord/Sibley East(1990) from 1968-2000, earning several conference, regional, and Coach of the Year Awards. In 1999 MN Basketball Coaches Inducted into the Hall of Fame. In 34 years of coaching my record was 15 conference titles and 10 second place finishes with 587 wins & 216 losses. My wife Judy and I have raised three children Kelli Noll, Tadd Kreun, and Traci Kreun. The former Judy Roelofs was a high school classmate. Darrell & Judy retired in 2000 and are now living in northern Minnesota.

Bob Wiarda; After graduating from high school I went to Morningside College in Sioux City, IA on a baseball scholarship. I had a good career in baseball at Morningside and the game that sticks out in my mind is the game I pitched and won 2-1 over Iowa State who were defending champs. I went to summer school so I could graduate early. I married my high school sweetheart Toni Maas while in college. Toni and I have two children Mark & Heidi Allison. My first job was at the corrections facility at Willow River, MN. from 1964-80, where I was a senior corrections officer. I transferred to the St. Cloud reformatory and worked in minimum security till 1986. In 1986 I took a job in Duluth at Woodland Hills, a rehabilitation center for workers of MN. I retired shortly after 2000 and live in Duluth near my son Mark, we spend time fishing in the St. Louis River.

Bob Dykstra; A short time after graduating from high school in 1964 I joined the Air Force and it was my career for 39 years. My wife Diane and I have raised two children Todd and Dawn and are presently living in Sioux Falls, SD. I retired from the USAF in 2003, and now I am running the Pipestone Air Port.

Norm Muilenburg; Norm and his wife Marjorie reside in Portland, OR. Where, at last report, he is working for Kaiser Permanente. They have two children Andrew and Peter.

Doug Vander Beek; After graduation from high school I attended Dunwoody Institute and graduated with an associate degree in architectural drafting, I then took employment with Lampert Lumber in 1962. After serving in the military for two years, I married Maryann Mesman in 1966. We lived in the Twin Cities until 1980 at which time we moved to Edgerton, where Lee Tinklenberg and I started a lumberyard in Edgerton . We moved from Edgerton in 1994 and I started working for Scott Lumber in Sioux Falls where I was manager until 2006. I then went into semi-retirement, but continued to work part time for Scotts as a lumber buyer. We have three children, Steve, Jill, and Craig, and three grandchildren. Maryann and I are both looking to full retirement in 2008. We own a home in Chandler, AZ and will be spending our winters there and the balance of the year in Sioux Falls.
