Born on October 24, 1930 to Ken & Ann Kielty in Minneapolis, MN.,being a Jr. my family name became Bud. I attended elementary and secondary school in Minneapolis, graduating from Roosevelt H.S. in 1949, earning 6 letters in football, basketball, and baseball.

In the fall of 1949 I enrolled at Mankato St in Education with Mathematics & P.E. majors. That fall I played football and baseball in the spring. Following the football season in the fall of 1950 the MN National Guard was activated. In January of 1951 Camp Rucker, AL was home for the better part of two years during the Korean Conflict. Late in 1952 I was discharged and enrolled at the U of Minnesota and played baseball in 1953 & 1954. I married Barbara Tures June 13, 1953 and then completed my education to graduate in the spring of 1955. During the 1954-55 school year while preparing to graduate by completing practice teaching in mathematics and student coaching at Roosevelt in Minneapolis, I was fortunate to work with players that later won state championships the years 1955-56 and 1956-57.

My first teaching/coaching position was in Edgerton, MN and started in August of 55. 3 of the 28 (7 th graders) were LeRoy Graphenteen, Darrell Kreun, & Dean Veenhof and 3 of the 24 (8 th graders) were Daryl Stevens, Dean Verdoes, & Bob Wiarda. I had the good fortune to coach & teach this group for 4 years, through 7 th & 8 th , “B” squad(1 st yr), and Varsity Basketball. I left to take a position in the Mpls Schools, and they became the top 6 players, under the superb direction of Richie Olson, to capture the 1960 Minnesota State Basketball Championship. My last year at Edgerton (1958-59) we finished with 17 wins & 5 losses, missing the district championship by 1pt.

I began teaching in Minneapolis in 1959, and taught at Jefferson Jr. high. In 1961, moved to West High School and was a teacher/coach through 1980. I then transferred to Washburn high school and retired in June of 1986. During my tenure in Minneapolis, I compiled an excellent record of 403 wins and 267 losses. My teams won 6 baseball, 2 tennis, 1 basketball, and 1 golf city championships. I coached 4 Twin City Champions and one of my baseball teams finished 2nd in the State Tournament in 1964.
