A Busy Day in Edgerton

 

Tom's Bio

Tom Tomashek, 66, was in sports journalism for 35 years including eight with the Chicago Tribune and 25 years with The News Journal of Delaware where he covered all University of Delaware athletic programs, as well as local, regional, and national golf competition.

Since his retirement in 2002, the six-time Delaware sportswriter of the year has freelanced for various newspapers and magazines and co-authored Town Ball, a history of Minnesota amateur baseball from 1945 through 1960.

Tomashek, a native Minnesotan who was graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1959 and from South Dakota State University in 1964, resides with his wife, Laura, in Newark, Delaware.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ken's Bio

Born on October 24, 1930 to Ken & Ann Kielty in Mpls. Being a Jr. my family name became Bud. Graduated from Roosevelt earning 6 letters in football, basketball, and baseball.

During the 1954-55 school year as student teacher and coach worked with Roosevelt High School players who later won state championships the years 1955-56 and 1956-57.

First teaching/coaching position was in Edgerton, MN and started in August of 1955 when LeRoy Graphenteen, Darrell Kreun, Dean Veenhof, and Dean Verdoes were B squad players

Began teaching in Minneapolis in 1959 at West High School and was a teacher/coach through 1980. Transferred to Washburn & retired June of 1986. During my tenure in Minneapolis:

Compiled an overall coaching record of 403 wins and 267 losses. Teams won 6 baseball, 2 tennis, 1 basketball, 1 golf city championship and four Twin City Champions and a 1964 baseball team that finished second in the state.
